Abstract

In this difficult recessionary time, supply chain management needs valid and useful performance measures. Cost of Quality (COQ) is a quality model that has been used for decades to improve organizational performance. We extend this model to supply chain business processes. Our model views the supply chain as a system with the raw material providers through retailers as internal and the final customer as external to the supply chain. The model further divides potential improvement areas by product, financial, logistics, and information flows. The key business processes that are mapped include product development, merchandise, promotion, and replenishment. Improvements in both cost and quality can be attained through the model
