Abstract

The current study focuses on how to best manage low-wage, student employees from Generation Z, a population that universities and colleges rely on for work in dining halls, recreation centers, and other on-campus positions and offices. Though previous research has examined aspects of these workers in various combinations, none bring all three characteristics into consideration in the same study. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to find a management style within the Blake Mouton Managerial Grid to effectively manage this population by focusing on job satisfaction and retention. Results show team management style is related to higher job satisfaction and retention. Mediation analysis supports full mediation: team management style leads to increased job satisfaction, which leads to higher retention. Future research and implications are discussed.
