Abstract

We are living in a time defined by significant events, which break entities (e.g. individuals, teams, and organizations) out of their routines, habits, and shared mental models (Morgeson et al., 2015). The impact of the global COVID-19 pandemic continues to reverberate throughout our healthcare systems, presenting unique challenges at each step of the care delivery process. The novel, disruptive, and critical nature of the pandemic primed the organization for an unprecedented rise in the use of digital technology and creative care delivery models. Participant observation and Event System Theory is utilized to evaluate the rapid, digital transformation of a large, Catholic health system in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
